Frequently asked questions

Is Hostim a hosted Portainer alternative?

Hostim and Portainer overlap on UI but the model differs. Portainer is a control panel for a Docker or Kubernetes cluster you operate yourself. Hostim is a managed PaaS — Hostim provides the cluster, the storage, the certificates and the managed databases.

Do I still need a VPS or my own cluster on Hostim?

No. Hostim runs on its own bare-metal cluster in Germany. You bring an app or a Compose file; Hostim provides the rest.

Does Hostim support Docker Compose like Portainer stacks?

Yes. Paste a Compose YAML and Hostim creates the apps, volumes and managed databases. Portainer Stacks accept Compose too, but you provide the underlying nodes.

Does Hostim include managed databases?

Yes. PostgreSQL, MySQL and Redis are managed services with backups. On Portainer, databases are containers you size, secure and back up yourself.

Where is Hostim hosted?

On bare-metal servers in Germany — no AWS, no GCP, no other hyperscaler.
