Why developers are switching

Familiar developer experience – without US cloud dependencies, surprise bills, or vendor lock-in.

Hosted in Germany (EU)

Your apps and data stay in Europe by default – low latency and GDPR-first.

Docker & Compose support

Bring your existing Dockerfiles or full Compose stacks – no rewrites.

Built-in databases & storage

Postgres, MySQL, Redis, and volumes ready to go – env vars pre-wired.

Private networking + SSH bastion

Per-project isolation and secure SSH access to manage your data.

Predictable pricing

Flat, transparent plans from €2.5/month – designed for startups.

Logs & metrics included

See live logs and useful graphs without extra add-ons.

Heroku vs Hostim: the numbers

Dyno and add-on prices from Heroku, plan prices from Hostim, both at August 2026 rates.

€2.50/month

Hostim entry app plan

Plan sa-1-1: 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM. Flat price, billed hourly, no usage meter.

$5/month

Heroku Eco dynos

1,000 compute hours shared across all Eco dynos. Eco dynos sleep after 30 minutes of inactivity.

$5/month

Heroku Postgres Essential-0

Heroku removed its free product plans on 28 November 2022, so a database is now a line on every bill.

€0

Managed database free tier

PostgreSQL 256 MB, MySQL 256 MB, Redis 128 MB, volume 1 GB. No cap on how many free instances you create.

AWS, Ireland

Where Heroku EU data lives

Heroku runs on AWS. Hostim runs on dedicated bare-metal servers in Germany, with no hyperscaler in the path.

Add-on marketplace, 15 years of docs

Where Heroku wins

Hundreds of one-command add-ons and buildpacks for teams that do not want to write a Dockerfile.

A flat plan costs the same whether you serve ten requests or ten thousand, so you can actually guess next month’s bill before it shows up.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hostim a Heroku replacement for EU developers?

Yes. Hostim runs Git and Docker deployments on bare-metal servers in Germany, with managed PostgreSQL, MySQL and Redis. EU data residency is the default — there is no US region available today, though a US East region in New Jersey is in planning with a public waitlist. Apps start at €2.50/month with a flat, transparent price.

Can I deploy a Docker Compose stack on Hostim?

Yes. Paste a Docker Compose file and Hostim will create the apps, databases and volumes from it. Heroku has no native Compose support — you have to translate the stack into buildpacks or container registry images.

How does Hostim pricing compare to Heroku?

Hostim app containers start at €2.50/month with included free databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis). Heroku Eco dynos start at $5/month and the free Postgres tier was removed in 2022, so a comparable Heroku stack typically costs $7–25/month.

Is Hostim GDPR compliant?

Yes. All app workloads and databases run on bare-metal servers in Germany. Hostim does not use AWS, GCP or other US hyperscalers, so customer data does not leave the EU under normal operation.

How do I migrate a Heroku app to Hostim?

Build a Dockerfile (or connect a Git repo containing one), create a project on Hostim, attach a managed PostgreSQL or MySQL, copy your Heroku config vars into Hostim environment variables, and deploy. SSH bastion access is included for restoring database dumps.

Does Hostim include logs and metrics like Heroku add-ons?

Yes. Live logs and basic CPU/memory/request metrics are included on every app — no separate paid add-on. Metrics come from a built-in Prometheus stack and logs from Loki.
