Fly.io vs Hostim: the numbers

Per-second machine billing against a flat monthly plan. Fly.io rates from their own price list.

€2.50/month

Hostim entry app plan

Plan sa-1-1: 1 vCPU, 1 GB RAM. Flat price, billed hourly, no usage meter.

$2.32/month

Fly.io smallest always-on machine

Fly’s own example: one shared-cpu-1x with 256 MB left running all month in sjc. Machine prices carry a region markup, and extra RAM is about $5 per GB per 30 days.

$0.15/GB volumes

Fly.io storage and transfer

Volume snapshots $0.08/GB per month after the first 10 GB. Egress $0.02/GB in North America and Europe.

Fly.io free allowance for new accounts

Free VM allowances only survive on organisations created before the October 2024 plan change.

Managed database free tier

PostgreSQL 256 MB, MySQL 256 MB, Redis 128 MB, volume 1 GB. No cap on how many free instances you create.

Global regions, scale to zero

Where Fly.io wins

Machines start and stop per second across dozens of regions worldwide. Hostim runs in Germany, with more regions planned, and does not scale to zero.

We charge for started and stopped Machines differently.

Frequently asked questions

Is Hostim a Fly.io alternative for EU teams?

Yes. Hostim runs Docker and Git apps in Germany on bare-metal servers. Fly.io is a global anycast platform but bills per-second and lacks managed databases at the same level — Hostim ships with managed PostgreSQL, MySQL and Redis.

How does Hostim pricing compare to Fly.io?

Hostim apps start at €2.50/month flat. Fly.io meters Machine runtime, RAM, bandwidth and storage separately, which makes costs unpredictable for steady workloads. Hostim is cheaper and easier to budget for always-on apps.

Does Hostim support Docker Compose?

Yes. Paste a Compose file and Hostim creates the apps, databases and volumes. Fly.io has no Compose import — each process is defined in a fly.toml file.

Does Hostim offer a managed Postgres like Fly Postgres?

Yes. Hostim runs PostgreSQL, MySQL and Redis as managed services with backups, and PostgreSQL and MySQL are replicated with automatic failover on every plan from €0. Fly.io also has a fully managed Postgres service with high availability and backups, but its Basic plan (shared-2x, 1 GB) is $38/month plus $0.28 per GB of storage. The older self-operated Fly Postgres is cheaper and is not a managed service.

Is Hostim GDPR compliant?

Yes. All workloads run in Germany on bare-metal servers with no US cloud dependency.
