Frequently asked questions

Is Hostim a managed Dokku alternative?

Yes. Dokku is a single-host, self-managed Heroku-like layer on top of a VPS. Hostim runs the same kind of Git/Docker deploy workflow but on a managed multi-tenant Kubernetes-backed cluster, so there is no VPS for you to patch.

Does Hostim support Dockerfile and Git push deploys like Dokku?

Yes. Push to a Git repo or point Hostim at one — if it has a Dockerfile, Hostim builds and deploys the image. You can also deploy a pre-built image directly.

How does Hostim handle plugins and add-ons compared to Dokku?

Hostim ships managed PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, persistent volumes, logs and metrics out of the box. Dokku exposes these via community plugins that you install and maintain yourself.

Does Hostim accept Docker Compose?

Yes. Paste a Compose YAML and Hostim creates apps, volumes and managed databases from it. Dokku does not accept Compose natively.

Where is Hostim hosted?

On bare-metal servers in Germany. With Dokku, the host is your VPS — wherever you provision it.
